IELTS Writing Task 2

In many countries, academics have severe problems with student behavior. What do you think are the reasons for these and what clarifications can you suggest? Provide reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your expertise and experience.

IELTS Writing Task 2

For a majority of individuals, a good part of the first seventeen years of their life is spent in schools. The importance of such a vital institution, therefore, cannot be taken lightly. Unfortunately, most of the educational institutions around the world are grappling with the deviant behavioral patterns in those coming to them. As far as I can see it, it’s the inadequacy of the educational institutions in meeting the demands of the present times. Moreover, ‘unrestricted freedom’ has compounded the problem. The remedy to these lies in revamping the educational system, making it more practical and time-friendly but most importantly exercising judicious checks and holds on our growing children from time to time.

IELTS Writing Task 2

Firstly, behavioral issues today like bullying, aggressiveness, use of foul abusive language among school children are screaming out, loud and clear, the malaise in the academic system. What is still more surprising is that no one wants to even talk about it. It’s imperative, therefore, that we first examine our educational portals. Close scrutiny of the so-called modern educational system will clearly reveal its failure to cater to life forms with individual tastes and interests. For instance, think of a child whose heart and soul is in the sports field, compulsively being made to go through the ordeal of the vague shapes and forms in the texts, in a cooped up classroom, with practically nothing to captivate his attention in terms of methodology or hands-on experience.

Under the circumstances, what can be expected of this highly volatile volcano? Were our educational system to somehow grab the total attention of the live, throbbing, pulsating beings, it would have saved us much of the problem of our potential beings going haywire. Rather than turning out in bulk the same cold, dead tangible goods in bulk, would it not be wise to rehash our educational curriculum and practices? Not until the commercial manufacturing units named schools turn into a garden where the potential of each child is nurtured, can there be a hope of a change for better.

The second cause of this predicament is, undoubtedly, the most misunderstood notion of ‘freedom’ in the present times. It has, somehow, come to be misunderstood by one and all as living with complete abandon. Checks and holds which have their own place in the scheme of things are considered an uncalled for botheration. The discipline of any kind is resented. As such innocent gullible children are fearlessly and unrestrictedly exploring and experimenting and, of course, the dire consequences are for everyone to brood over.

Responsibility and constant monitoring is the need of the hour and this demands, foremost, that well-defined, clear-cut boundaries be drawn for the children whether it’s the school or the parents for that matter. In the absence of such an understanding, the vulnerable school going children shall continue to succumb to compulsive disorders, thereby resulting in what we term as a misdemeanor.

Thus, the incompetence of the educational abodes to meet the pressing demands of the times and the present generation, coupled with unbridled freedom are significantly responsible for the misconduct in the pupils in schools. Only with a syllabus that respects the individuality of each child and completely rivets his concentration can the problem be nabbed.
